Someday there will be comics!!!!

I have a short list of games for the nintendo switch I intended to purchase someday due to the convenience of being able to play them while laying in bed. It's my favorite way to play games due to my bad back and general comfort.

Most of these games are actually ports of old titles that were originally released on other non-nintendo consoles. In other words, they are not nintendo IPs. With the exception of Super Mario Maker 2, Animal Crossing New Horizons and three Pokemon titles, all of the other games I have on the switch are NOT nintendo IPs.

Hey does this mean we can go back to hating copyright though, i liked when we all agreed copyright was a bad system instead of one we need to expand

I feel like we’ve just been through a bizarre period of copyright becoming inexplicably popular amongst creative leftist types online because of AI stuff and while I’m sympathetic to that I think copyright is, on balance, much worse

"Artists should have control over how their work is used, as a matter of basic respect!"
Yeah!!

"Therefore we should strengthen the laws that major corporations have exploited for decades to gain a stranglehold on creative industries and keep certain artists on a leash."
Wait, no, hold on-

As always, the existence of copyright only has any value at all, minuscule though it may be, because artists are required to ply their craft to fill their bellies. The moment that capitalism ceases to be the economic system that a people languish under is also the moment that copyright should be erased in its entirety from existence. Even now we should limit our use of it as much as possible (primarily to disallow large corporations to use our creations to make money with but not to disallow the same actions from small independent creators not using our creations for nefarious reasons).

If our basic needs are provided for and we can create simply for the enjoyment and the cultural enrichment of others, there is no value in policing who can do what with other people's creations. Honestly, in an edenic world like that I would feel honored to have other artists do horrible wretched things with my characters and creations that I would never do.

(In addendum, it is always moral and right to create art in which disney characters are shown doing very un-disneylike things and release it into the wild.)

Kinda makes me pine for the good old days when the systemic bigotry, censorship, and thought policing was accomplished in EFFECT but not with direct legalese.

If you don't feel like clicking the article link here's the bullet points:

  1. If this bill is passed it will become a class E FELONY for any teacher or school counselor to assist a youth under 18 in socially transitioning.
  2. "Assisting" is defined as providing support that is material, informational, or other resources. In other words, an action as simple as telling the youth that something like a chest binder is a thing that exists, or referring to a student with they/them pronouns.
  3. The felony charge could result in a $10,000 fine and up to 5 years in prison, and the law would also require anyone charged with this "crime" to register as a SEX OFFENDER.
  4. Being charged with this crime and added to the sex offender list would also have the effect of ending the teacher or counselor's career as, in Missouri, anyone on the sex offender list is prohibited from being within 500 feet of a school or daycare.

A couple of the articles I've read have said it's unlikely to become law here, but I can almost guarantee you that the authors of those articles are not from Missouri. I will not be surprised at all when this becomes the law in this land. The worse things get here the more that I want to leave, but simultaneously, the more I want to stay and fight. But I don't really have a way to fight. 🫤
